Years 3 and 4

Term 3

Year 3/4 Dance Project
We are going to be creating a dance sequence based around the theme of Winter. The Habit of Mind Focus is: Creating, Imagining and Innovating.
Using music from the You Tube Video below, each group's dance should be choreographed for one to one and half minutes [60 - 90 seconds long].
Scroll down below the video for the Dance Criteria rubric.

Winter Dance was composed by Japanese pop group Uttara Kuru. Enjoy!

Winter Dance Criteria

In Term 3, students are busily practising their song and dance routine for Beauty and the Beast. They have also been looking at Finding Humour and learning how to use it effectively as a habit of mind.
Some of us were reticent at first when we tried 'laughter yoga' but gradually, we are all getting the hang of it and are enjoying having fun laughing together.

Finding Humour Success Criteria
Where do you see yourself at the moment?
              Diamond:
  •       Sees the humorous side of things and creates a positive outlook no matter how difficult a situation is
  •      Uses humour to raise the spirits of themselves and others
  •       Is quick to laugh at themselves and then move ahead when they have a problem

        Gold:

  •       Knows when and how to use humour appropriately
  •       Appreciates the humour of others

  Silver:

  •       Can find humour in some situations
  •      Knows the difference between appropriate and inappropriate humour
  •      Persists in ‘faking it’ until you ‘make it’, knowing that our bodies can’t tell the difference between real and fake laughter.

       Bronze:

  •       Cannot laugh at themselves
  •       Has difficulty seeing the funny side of things in problem situations
  •      Sometimes uses humour inappropriately

Term 2
In Term 2 students have been learning to sing rounds, including Frere Jacques , in preparation for Beauty and the Beast as some of the songs in this musical contain French words.
Students have also been learning to read music and play Frere Jacques on the glockenspiel, with some classes also able to play it as a round.

Term 1
Years 3 and 4 are studying Music during Term 1, 2017.

We are going to be creating our own compositions based on one of the four seasons.
Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to access the instructions for your Music Composition Project.

We have used many Habits of Mind when creating these compositions including: Thinking Interdependently, Listening with Understanding and Empathy, Gathering Data through sight, sound and touch and Striving for Accuracy.

We were Gathering Data when we were exploring the various sounds and textures that the different instruments made. That way, we could decide which ones best suited our season.

We were Thinking Interdependently and Communicating with Clarity and Precision when we made collaborative decisions about how our compositions would sound.

Here is a video of Joel's and Josh's Summer composition.

Years 3 and 4 have been studying Music and rhythm in 2016, as well as rehearsing their songs for The Lion King.
Rhythm activities have included Drumming Circles where students play a variety of drums and different rhythms simultaneously. Students have also been composing their own rhythms.
